Success Stories: Hope After Ashermans
Tammy's Success Story
Well my story with ashermans is kind of long. My husband & I
started trying in 11/95. I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks, after hearing the heartbeat.
We then went into another pregnancy & at 24 weeks 7/96 I lost my son.
Then we tried again & I had another miscarriage at 6wks 4/97. I
could not give up on my dream so once again we tried & I lost my
daughter at 19wks 12/97 due to incompetent cervix, two weeks later I had a
emergency D&C because part of the placenta was left. Then we had another
miscarriage at 6wks 12/98 with a D&C then another D&C because part of the
placenta was stuck. That is how we think my ashermans developed was the 4
D&C's.
In April 1999 I was diagnosed with the ashermans as being severe.
My only hope was the surgery, a hysteroscopy. I was told that one surgery may
not be enough. I was also told that the scar tissue could come back
& that if the surgery was successful then I could have complications during delivery
of a child like bleed to death.
My surgery was successful &
opened the cavity very well. The doctors were very impressed at how well it went.
I was then given some hope that we can achieve our dream & have a child.
I was very determined & so we did try again. Since I also have
incompetent cervix when I got pregnant I had to have a cerclage at 12wks & bi-weekly
visits with my peri. I ended up making it to 39wks & I had my
doctor induce me because I was getting anxious & wanted to be monitored because of
all my complications. I had a son named Noah 8/00. I also had
slight problems with the delivery & my placenta. But having the doctors
aware made things pretty safe.
I just recently had another healthy boy 2/02
named Nathan. I now feel like my family is complete. I never thought
that I would be where I am today. It has been a hard rode, through all the
pain, struggles, surgeries, & having to have buried 2 babies before I
was 25yrs old was a lot to take. I never gave up on my dream & that is what
gave me the strength to go on. I hope I can give you all a little bit of
encouragement that it can happen. Dreams & miracles do happen.
Keep up your strength & hopes. I will keep you all in my thoughts.
